Molly Brown House Museum

Molly Brown House Museum, Colorado, United States

Historical Place Museum

The Molly Brown House Museum in Denver, Colorado, was originally built in 1889 by architect William A. Lang in a combination of Queen Anne and Richardsonian Romanesque styles.

It became famous as the home of Margaret “Molly” Brown, a philanthropist, activist, and socialite best known for surviving the sinking of the Titanic in 1912. Margaret and her husband James Joseph Brown, a mining engineer, purchased the home in 1894.

The house showcased modern technology of its time like electricity, indoor plumbing, and heating. After Molly Brown's death in 1932, the house went through periods as a boarding house and settlement before falling into disrepair. In the 1970s, Historic Denver, Inc. led efforts to save and restore it, using original photos and architectural research to return it to its early 20th-century grandeur.

The museum now offers guided tours highlighting Molly Brown's life, her humanitarian work, and Denver's history, making it a significant cultural and historic landmark recognized on the National Register of Historic Places since 1972.
