Park
Newton Hills State Park, located in Lincoln County, South Dakota, spans 1,063 acres of glacier-carved rolling hills and dense deciduous forest in the Coteau des Prairies, offering a striking contrast to the surrounding prairie just 6 miles south of Canton and 12 miles east of Interstate 29.
Shaped by ancient glaciers rising to over 2,000 feet, the park features Lake Lakota for boating, fishing, and swimming, extensive hiking and biking trails, horseback riding, birdwatching with over 200 species, and abundant wildlife like white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, and foxes.
Year-round activities include 128 campsites, eight cabins, horse camping, and summer programs for families, with historical ties to Woodland Indian cultures from 300 B.C. to 900 A.D. amid local legends of hidden gold and outlaws.
