Park
The Obed Wild and Scenic River, a National Park Service unit in Cumberland and Morgan Counties on Tennessee's Cumberland Plateau, protects 45 miles of free-flowing streams including the Obed River, Clear Creek, Daddy's Creek, and Emory River segments amid deep gorges, sandstone cliffs, and boulder-strewn valleys carved over millennia.
Authorized in 1976 for its remarkable geology, ecology, wildlife like otters and rare fish, and cultural history from Native American times to pioneers, it features V-shaped river valleys, karst features, diverse forests with rhododendron and wildflowers, and over 100 bird species.
Visitors enjoy whitewater paddling and kayaking on challenging rapids, rock climbing on sheer sandstone faces, hiking rugged trails, fishing for smallmouth bass and muskie, birdwatching, primitive camping, and six public access points, managed cooperatively with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.
