Park
Railtown 1897 State Historic Park in Jamestown preserves an intact Sierra Railway roundhouse, turntable and locomotive shops dating to the late 19th and early 20th centuries and offers daily guided roundhouse tours and seasonal excursion train rides behind historic steam and diesel locomotives.
The 26‑acre site—often called “The Movie Railroad”—houses working blacksmith and machine shops, a movie‑prop exhibit (including the famous Sierra No. 3 locomotive), picnic areas and a depot store, and its equipment and facilities have appeared in hundreds of films and TV productions.
Visitors can watch restoration work, take narrated train trips through Gold Country, join special events and volunteer programs, and should check current hours, ticketing and admission details before planning a visit.
