History Museum
The Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture in Baltimore is Maryland's largest African American museum, showcasing over 400 years of history through more than 11,000 artifacts, documents, photographs, and art.
Opened in 2005 and named after Reginald F. Lewis, the first African American CEO of a Fortune 500 company, the museum highlights the achievements and struggles of African American Marylanders. The five-story building, designed to reflect the colors of the Maryland state flag, includes permanent and rotating exhibitions, a 200-seat theater, classrooms, an oral history recording studio, and a resource center.
The museum serves as both a cultural and educational hub, offering interactive exhibits, live performances, lectures, and programs that explore themes such as family, community, labor, and intellectual contributions, aiming to preserve and promote African American heritage in Maryland while inspiring sustained social change.
