Park
Robert Louis Stevenson State Park is an undeveloped, 5,272‑acre park in the Napa–Sonoma–Lake County area centered on Mount Saint Helena, a volcanic landmark whose summit offers wide-reaching views of Napa, Sonoma and Lake counties and, on very clear days, distant peaks like Mount Shasta.
The park’s trails pass through mixed habitats—Douglas fir and oak forests on north-facing slopes and chaparral and grassy hills on south-facing slopes—leading to features such as the Palisades cliffs, Table Rock, and the Stevenson memorial marking the site where the author stayed in 1880.
Hiking and mountain biking are the primary activities (including a roughly five‑mile ascent to the summit and a 10‑mile round trip Stevenson Memorial Trail), the area is largely primitive with limited facilities and no dogs allowed, and visitors should prepare for changing weather, steep terrain and minimal services when planning a trip.
