Beach
Robert W. Crown Memorial State Beach (Crown Beach) is a 2.5‑mile shoreline park on Alameda Island along San Francisco Bay, created and maintained as public beachland in memory of Assemblyman Robert W. Crown and operated in partnership with the East Bay Regional Park District.
The beach features wide sandy shores backed by lawns and picnic areas, a paved Bay Trail for walking and cycling, a bathhouse and seasonal lifeguard coverage, and the Crab Cove Visitor Center with interactive marine exhibits and a touch tank that interpret the site’s natural and recreational history.
Crown Beach is popular for swimming, windsurfing, kite‑flying, birdwatching at the Elsie Roemer Bird Sanctuary and nearby lagoon, and community events like the annual sand‑sculpture contest, while managed facilities include accessible ramps, reservable picnic areas, and educational programs—visitors should check current hours, fees and park rules before going.
