Rock Creek Station State Historical Park, Nebraska, United States

Park

Rock Creek Station State Historical Park is a 350‑acre site in southeastern Nebraska, about three miles northeast of Endicott near Fairbury, that preserves the location of a 19th‑century stage and Pony Express station along the Oregon–California Trails on the west bank of Rock Creek.

Established in 1857 as a supply stop and campground for emigrants, it later served as a Pony Express relay and Overland Stage station and became notorious in 1861 when James Butler “Wild Bill” Hickok killed David McCanles there, an event that helped launch Hickok’s legend.

Today the park includes reconstructed ranch buildings, a visitor center or museum, hiking trails, picnic areas, and a small campground, set amid prairie, timbered creek bottoms, and nearby ruts of the old trail, offering a mix of Old West history, archeology, and quiet outdoor recreation.
