Park
Salt Point State Park is a rugged, 6,000‑acre stretch of Sonoma County coastline where wind‑sculpted sandstone headlands, kelp‑dotted coves and tidal pools meet forested bluffs and pygmy‑forest pockets, offering dramatic ocean views and rich marine life.
The park includes over 20 miles of trails, two campgrounds (Gerstle Cove and Woodside), popular dive and snorkel sites such as Gerstle Cove and Fisk Mill Cove, unique tafoni (honeycombed) sandstone formations, and opportunities for hiking, picnicking, tidepooling, fishing and horseback riding.
Offshore waters are protected as a marine reserve, making the area notable for abalone and kelp ecosystems and for wildlife such as seals and migrating whales, while visitors should prepare for cool, changeable coastal weather, check for seasonal restrictions (including no‑drone rules), and consult park notices for fees, campground reservations and safety information before visiting.
