Park
Shawnee State Park covers 1,095 acres within Ohio's vast 63,000-acre Shawnee State Forest in Scioto County, southern Ohio, near the Ohio River and Appalachian foothills north of Friendship.
Known as the "Little Smokies of Ohio" for its misty, rolling hills and dense forests—once Shawnee Indian hunting grounds—the park offers stunning vistas, two lakes (Roosevelt and Turkey Creek) for fishing, boating, swimming, and paddling, plus an Ohio River marina.
Visitors enjoy over 60 miles of hiking trails like the 5-mile Park Loop, 75 miles of bridle paths, an 18-hole golf course, mini-golf, biking rentals, a 50-room lodge, 25 cottages, and a large campground, with abundant wildlife including deer, turkeys, and birds. Established in 1922 as a game preserve and enhanced by the Civilian Conservation Corps, it provides rugged, picturesque outdoor adventures year-round.
