Historical Place Museum
The Spanish Governor's Palace in San Antonio, Texas, is a historic 18th-century colonial building completed in 1749, originally serving as the residence and office for the captain of Presidio San Antonio de Béxar.
It is the only remaining example of an aristocratic Spanish Colonial residence in Texas and was later home to Spanish governors of the region. Known for its distinctive horseshoe-shaped layout surrounding a grand courtyard with a fountain, the palace played a key role in protecting the nearby missions including the Alamo.
After a period of varied uses, it was restored and opened as San Antonio's first city-owned museum in 1930, now showcasing Spanish colonial artifacts, furnishings, and Texas history. The building is a National Historic Landmark situated near the San Antonio River Walk and Market Square, and it remains one of the city's most visited historic sites.
