History Museum

The Old Sorrel-Weed House Museum and Tours in Savannah, Georgia, is a grand 16,000-square-foot Greek Revival and Regency mansion built between 1835 and 1840 for wealthy merchant Francis Sorrel, who profited from shipping and the slave trade, on the site of a former British Revolutionary War fort near Madison Square.

Later owned by businessman Henry Weed until 1914, it stood vacant for decades before opening to the public in 1940 through the Society for the Preservation of Savannah Landmarks and earning state landmark status in 1954 as one of Georgia's first.

Today, the historic house museum offers guided history tours of its opulent rooms, carriage house, and gardens alongside popular ghost tours highlighting its haunted reputation tied to personal tragedies and paranormal claims amid restored antebellum splendor.
