Museum
The Tillamook Air Museum, located south of Tillamook, Oregon, occupies Hangar B, the world's largest clear-span wooden structure built by the U.S. Navy in 1943 at Naval Air Station Tillamook to house K-class blimps for World War II anti-submarine patrols along the Oregon-Washington coast, spanning over seven acres at 1,072 feet long, 296 feet wide, and 192 feet tall with massive 30-ton doors.
Decommissioned in 1948 after the war, the hangar later served lumber operations and aircraft storage until the Port of Tillamook Bay opened the museum in 1992 following the 1992 fire that destroyed companion Hangar A, now showcasing over 25 vintage aircraft, wartime artifacts like Hindenburg pieces and Luftwaffe gear, interactive exhibits such as air raid shelters and jet simulators, and a Hall of WWII battles.
Open daily with summer hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the site draws 50,000 visitors yearly for self-guided tours, school groups, and recent additions like a combat-tested Harrier jet, blending aviation history with the hangar's engineering marvel amid coastal scenery.
