Tombstone

Tombstone, Arizona, United States

Locality

Tombstone, Arizona, founded in 1879 by prospector Ed Schieffelin following silver discoveries, is a historic town in Cochise County known as "The Town Too Tough to Die."

It quickly grew during the silver boom to become one of the largest and most lawless mining towns in the West, famous for its saloons, gambling, and violence, including the legendary 1881 Gunfight at the O.K. Corral involving Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday. After its mining boom ended in the late 1880s due to flooding and falling silver prices, Tombstone reinvented itself as a tourist destination.

It retains much of its Old West charm and features numerous preserved historic sites like the O.K. Corral, Bird Cage Theatre, Boothill Graveyard, and Schieffelin Hall. Tombstone's rich history and Western atmosphere attract hundreds of thousands of visitors annually, making it a living tribute to the American frontier era.
