Park
Washoe Meadows State Park covers 608 acres of pristine meadows and woodlands south of South Lake Tahoe in El Dorado County, California, at the base of the Echo Summit escarpment along Highway 50.
Acquired in 1984 under emergency statute to protect water quality feeding Lake Tahoe and named for the Washoe Native Americans who summered here for millennia, this undeveloped park features rare fens, wetlands, the Upper Truckee River for fishing and swimming, and habitats for bears, bobcats, mountain lions, birds, and fish.
Free to enter with no services or facilities, it welcomes walking, jogging, biking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and wildlife viewing year-round amid summer highs near 75°F and winter lows around 20°F, with leashed dogs permitted.
