Park
Wilder Ranch State Park encompasses 7,000 acres along the Santa Cruz coastline north of Santa Cruz, California, blending dramatic ocean bluffs, redwood forests, wildflower meadows, and historic dairy ranch structures from the late 19th century.
Once a pioneering farm supplying the Santa Cruz Mission and later innovating with Pelton water wheels for butter production under five generations of the Wilder family, it now preserves Victorian homes, barns, a machine shop, and farm animals for weekend guided tours at 1 p.m. and self-guided walks.
The park offers over 35 miles of multi-use trails for hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian riding from sea level to 1,200-foot ridges with Pacific vistas, tide pools, and sea caves, charging a $10 vehicle day-use fee (open 8 a.m. to sunset) and six primitive horse campsites, though no general camping or fires are allowed.
