Park

Wilderness Road State Park is a 310-acre historic site in Lee County, southwestern Virginia, USA, near Ewing astride the original Wilderness Road blazed by Daniel Boone in 1775, which opened Kentucky and the Midwest to over 300,000 settlers by 1800. Located five miles west of Ewing at the intersection of Routes 58 and 923, it features a replica of Martin's Station fort—built by pioneer Joseph Martin in 1769 as a key stop between Virginia and Kentucky settlements—plus the 1878 Karlan Mansion, self-guided hiking trails, mountain biking, picnic shelters, and interpretive programs on frontier history. Open daily from 8 a.m. to dusk since its 1993 dedication, it preserves this pivotal migration route through Powell Valley near Cumberland Gap National Historical Park.
