History Museum
The Will Rogers Memorial Museum in Claremore, Oklahoma, was established in 1938 to honor the life and legacy of Will Rogers, a beloved entertainer, humorist, writer, and philosopher.
Located on 20 acres of land that Rogers himself purchased in 1911 for his future retirement home, the limestone museum holds the world’s largest collection of Rogers memorabilia, personal writings, photographs, and artifacts.
The museum contains 12 galleries, a children’s area, a theater showing his films, and a library. Will Rogers, his wife Betty, and several family members are entombed on the museum grounds, which include a beautiful sunken garden overlooking Claremore.
The museum was built through the efforts of Rogers' family, the Oklahoma Legislature, and numerous donors during the Great Depression, opening on what would have been Rogers' 59th birthday. It provides a detailed look at Rogers’ multifaceted career in vaudeville, radio, film, and public speaking, celebrating his wit, wisdom, and deep connection to Oklahoma and American culture.
