Park
William B. Ide Adobe State Historic Park is a 4-acre day-use California State Historic Park located on the west bank of the Sacramento River, about half a mile north of Red Bluff in Tehama County in Northern California's Sacramento Valley.
The park honors William Brown Ide, a California pioneer who captained the Bear Flag Revolt and served as the only president of the short-lived California Republic that lasted just 22 days from June 14 to July 9, 1846, though research has shown that Ide never actually lived in or owned the adobe house that bears his name.
The historic adobe was actually built in 1852 by settler A. M. Dibble and the site once served as a ferry crossing on the California-Oregon Road, and today the park features a restored adobe housing a museum, a recreated 1850s homestead with replicas of a schoolhouse, wood shop, and blacksmith shop, a heritage garden, water well, smokehouse, and a visitor center open Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m..
Visitors can enjoy picnicking in the riverside picnic area overlooking the Sacramento River, walking the grounds from sunrise to sunset, and attending seasonal interpretive events including Adobe Day in August, the Adobe Ferry Championship Horseshoe Pitchers Contest in October, and a Pioneer Christmas Party in December that bring mid-19th century frontier life to life.
