Established in 1969 near the historic site of a former lumber mill town on the Nez Perce reservation lands opened to settlement in 1895, the park offers year-round recreation including fishing for rainbow trout, perch, bass, bluegill, and tiger muskie; canoeing and paddle boating; mountain biking and hiking on scenic trails; and winter activities like cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and ice fishing.
Amenities feature 34 campsites, year-round yurts, a visitor center, picnic areas, playgrounds, and abundant wildlife viewing of white-tailed deer, Canada geese, bald eagles, muskrats, and Columbian ground squirrels.
