Wolf Run State Park encompasses 1,338 acres of rugged, unglaciated Appalachian hills in Noble County, southeastern Ohio, three miles north of Caldwell, featuring a 220-acre lake amid second-growth forests of oak, hickory, and pine shaped by ancient meltwaters and Pennsylvanian sandstone bedrock.
Named for the pioneering Wolf family, land was acquired starting in 1963 with the dam completed in 1966, dedicating the park in 1968 for quiet retreats with boating on motors up to 10 hp, fishing for bass, bluegill, crappie, trout, and catfish, swimming, hunting, over 10 miles of hiking trails including Buckeye Trail segments, camping, picnicking, and winter activities.
This peaceful haven, once rich in coal and early oil, now draws visitors for its scenic woodlands, wildlife, and unique primitive fly-in camping near the local airport.
