Park
Ambrose A. Call State Park is a 138-acre wooded oasis of rugged hills and virgin timber nestled amid Iowa's gently rolling farmland near the East Fork of the Des Moines River in Kossuth County.
Named for Ambrose A. Call, one of the county's first European settlers who built Iowa's earliest log cabin there in July 1854 with his brother Asa, the park was donated by his daughter in 1925 and dedicated in 1929. It features a historic log-cabin-style lodge ideal for gatherings, two miles of trails winding through forests, ravines, and creeks for hiking, snowshoeing, or cross-country skiing, plus diverse shrubs, flowers, trees, and wildlife viewing opportunities.
