Park
Balmorhea State Park is a 751‑acre Texas state park located just south of Interstate 10 in Reeves County, near the small town of Balmorhea in the Chihuahuan Desert of West Texas.
The park is best known for its large, spring‑fed, stone‑lined swimming pool that covers about 1.3–1.75 acres and is fed by San Solomon Springs, which pump millions of gallons of clear water per day at a comfortable 72–76°F year‑round. Visitors swim, snorkel, and scuba dive in the pool, camp in designated sites, and explore restored desert wetlands called cienegas that support endangered fish and other wildlife, all within easy reach of Big Bend National Park and other Far West Texas destinations.
The park was built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, and its historic adobe and stone buildings, along with abundant bird‑watching and nature‑study opportunities, combine recreation with a sense of place in the high desert.
