Boone Hall Plantation and Gardens

Boone Hall Plantation and Gardens, South Carolina, United States

Tourist Attraction

Boone Hall Plantation and Gardens in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, is one of America’s oldest plantations, established in 1681 by Major John Boone, an English settler.

It is renowned for its long-standing agricultural production and its iconic allée of moss-draped live oak trees planted in 1743, which create a dramatic and picturesque entrance to the plantation house. The property has a rich history, tracing the development of the Lowcountry from colonial times through the Civil War and beyond.

Boone Hall changed hands in the early 19th century and was acquired by the Horlbeck family, who made it an important center for brick-making using slave labor, producing nearly four million bricks annually by 1850, many of which were used in Charleston’s historic buildings.
