Museum
El Rancho de las Golondrinas, located on 200 acres in the La Ciénega Valley south of Santa Fe, New Mexico, is a living history museum opened in 1972 that recreates 18th- and 19th-century Hispanic life along the historic Camino Real trade route from Mexico City to Santa Fe.
Originally a paraje or rest stop dating to the early 1700s with original adobe buildings and acequias on the National Register of Historic Places, it was purchased in 1932 by Leonora Curtin and transformed by her and husband Y.A. Paloheimo into an immersive site featuring restored haciendas, a water mill, blacksmith shop, church, general store, and mountain village where costumed interpreters demonstrate weaving, milling, hide tanning, and crop planting.
The museum hosts ten annual festivals and self-guided tours from June to October, preserving Northern New Mexico's Hispano heritage through hands-on experiences amid lush fields watered by ancient irrigation systems.
