Park
Rio Grande Nature Center State Park is a 38-acre urban wildlife refuge along the Rio Grande in Albuquerque, New Mexico, established in 1982 to protect bosque habitat with cottonwoods, wetlands, ponds, and sand flats that support over 250 bird species like sandhill cranes, wood ducks, hawks, and hummingbirds along the Central Flyway.
About two-thirds of the grounds remain quiet wildlife preserves, while public areas feature 1.2 miles of easy nature trails, viewing blinds, a native plant garden, Mariposaville pollinator garden, picnic shelter, and a modern visitor center designed by Antoine Predock with exhibits, live pond cameras, and educational programs including guided walks and school field trips.
It's day-use only with no camping, allows leashed pets in parking areas, and emphasizes environmental education on the river ecosystem amid city growth.
