Park
Erratic Rock State Natural Site is a tiny 4.4-acre day-use park in Yamhill County, Oregon, USA, perched atop a foothill of the Northern Oregon Coast Range between Sheridan and McMinnville off Oregon Route 18.
It showcases the largest glacial erratic in the Willamette Valley—a massive 90-ton (or 40 short-ton) boulder of banded argillite transported over 500 miles from Montana's Northern Rocky Mountains via iceberg during Ice Age Missoula Floods 12,000 to 17,000 years ago, deposited when the ice melted.
Acquired in 1956, the site features a short 0.2-mile paved trail past vineyards and orchards to the rock, interpretive signs explaining its geological journey, a picnic table, birdwatching opportunities, and sweeping views of the valley, farms, vineyards, Coast Range, and distant Cascades on clear days.
