Park
Fairfax Stone State Park in West Virginia, USA, comprises just four acres near Eglon in Preston, Tucker, and Grant counties, six miles north of Thomas off U.S. Route 219.
Named for the Fairfax Stone—a historic surveyor's marker placed in 1746 by Thomas Lewis under Lord Fairfax—it settled a colonial boundary dispute between Maryland and Virginia at the North Branch Potomac River's headwaters, marking the western edge of Fairfax's vast Northern Neck grant.
One of America's oldest landmarks and listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1970, the current six-ton granite replacement (the fifth stone) sits in a clearing with picnic tables, interpretive plaques, and a spring, open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. as a day-use site without restrooms or overnight facilities.
