State Park
Fort Boonesborough State Park in Kentucky preserves the site of a frontier fort founded by Daniel Boone and his men in 1775 after they crossed the Kentucky River.
It was one of the first European-American settlements in Kentucky and played a key role as a frontier outpost during the American Revolutionary War. The fort, built to protect settlers from Native American attacks, famously survived an 11-day siege in 1778.
After the war, the settlement served as a stop for westward-bound pioneers and a hub for the tobacco trade before gradually fading away by the early 19th century. The state park features a reconstructed living-history fort with cabins, blockhouses, and craft demonstrations, offering visitors an immersive experience of pioneer life.
The park also includes historical markers and a museum that explore the site's significance in American westward expansion and the life of Daniel Boone. The area’s archaeological importance was officially recognized when it was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1996.
