Frank Jackson State Park is a 2,050-acre public recreation area located just outside Opp in Covington County, Alabama, encircling the scenic 1,037-acre Lake Frank Jackson, a stream-fed lake renowned for excellent fishing of bass, bream, crappie, and catfish.
Originally opened in 1970 as Lightwood Knot Creek State Park, it was renamed in the 1980s to honor longtime local legislator Frank Jackson and features boat launches, a grassy beach for swimming, over three miles of easy walking trails including a boardwalk to a lake island, picnic pavilions, a playground, and lakefront RV camping with more than 30 sites offering full hookups, cable TV, and a modern bathhouse.
Popular for family outings, fishing tournaments, birdwatching from a pedestrian bridge over wetlands, and peaceful nature immersion, it provides access to nearby attractions like Conecuh National Forest and Florala State Park.
