Park
Grand Lake St. Marys State Park encompasses nearly 600 acres of prime lakeside land around Ohio's largest inland lake—spanning 13,500 acres at shallow depths of 5-7 feet—in Mercer and Auglaize counties, western Ohio between Celina and St. Marys.
Constructed entirely by hand between 1837-1845 using shovels, axes, and mules as the world's then-largest man-made reservoir to feed the Miami and Erie Canal, it transitioned to recreation after railroads supplanted canals, becoming one of Ohio's first state parks in 1949.
Visitors revel in unlimited horsepower boating and rentals, water skiing, swimming beaches, prime fishing for bass, walleye, crappie, saugeye, and catfish, camping, picnicking, trails, hunting, birdwatching including eagles, off-leash dog parks, three lighthouses, and summer fireworks over the water.
