Hendrickson House Museum in Wilmington, Delaware, is one of the oldest surviving Swedish-American homes in the United States, originally built around 1690 by Swedish farmer Andrew Hendrickson and his wife, Brigitta Morton, in Chester, Pennsylvania.
Three generations of the Hendrickson family lived there, and the house consists of a large room used for daily activities and a spacious bedroom upstairs. In 1958, to save it from demolition, the house was carefully transported brick by brick to its present location at Old Swedes Historic Site, which also includes the historic Holy Trinity Church and its burial ground.
Today, the museum offers an immersive experience of late 17th-century settler life, with period rooms, original furniture, tools, and personal items on display, as well as archives and a library dating back to the colonial period. Knowledgeable guides provide insights into the craftsmanship and lifestyle of early Swedish-American settlers, making the museum both a significant cultural landmark and an educational destination in the region.
