Park

Johnsonville State Historic Park, a 1,075-acre day-use site near New Johnsonville in Humphreys County, Tennessee, preserves the remnants of a key Union supply depot from the Civil War era, named for future President Andrew Johnson during his time as military governor.

Established along the Tennessee River railroad to supply Nashville, the town and depot were destroyed by Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest in the 1864 Battle of Johnsonville, with surviving features including two large redoubts, original breastworks, rifle pits, a railroad turntable pit, and the Crocket Cemetery.

Now largely submerged under Kentucky Lake created by the TVA in the 1940s, the park features a visitor center with exhibits and a theater, six miles of hiking trails, picnic areas, and interpretive displays on its layered history from Native American sites to the Civil War.
