Martin Creek Lake State Park covers 286 acres along the shores of 5,000-acre Martin Creek Lake in Rusk County, East Texas, about 3 miles southwest of Tatum and 25 miles southeast of Longview via FM 1716 and Park Road 64, established in 1976 after deeding from Texas Utilities following the reservoir's completion in 1974 for power plant cooling.
Set in dense pine-hardwood forests of the Piney Woods with gently rolling terrain, sandy loams, and wildlife like bald eagles, alligators, osprey, and fish including largemouth bass, crappie, and catfish thriving in the warmed waters, it offers shoreline fishing, a four-lane boat ramp, swimming, paddling, and birdwatching.
Visitors enjoy nearly 5 miles of hike-and-bike trails like the 2-mile Shortleaf Pine Trail, Old Henderson Road Loop, and Island Trails Loop to a primitive campsite via footbridge, plus camping in RV/tent sites and screened shelters, picnicking, and a quiet escape drawing 79,022 people in 2022.
