Park
Mary Jane Thurston State Park spans 105 acres along the scenic Maumee River in Wood and Henry Counties, northwestern Ohio, just west of Grand Rapids.
Named for schoolteacher Mary Jane Thurston who donated the initial 14 acres in 1928, it opened fully in 1968 after additional land acquisitions, embracing remnants of the historic Miami and Erie Canal amid woodlands perfect for picnicking, hunting, and exploring.
The park shines for boating from a launch ramp and marina, prime stream fishing on the Maumee for walleye, bass, and catfish, easy hiking trails like the Tow Path extending into Grand Rapids, a pond for kids' fishing, waterfowl hunting at North Turkeyfoot, and camping at 23 electric sites.
