Art Museum
Millicent Rogers Museum in Taos, New Mexico, is an art museum founded in 1956 by the family of Millicent Rogers, a Standard Oil heiress, fashion icon, and passionate collector who moved to Taos in 1947 and died there in 1952 at age 50.
Housed in a hacienda-style adobe home donated by friends since 1968, it showcases over 7,000 objects from Native American, Hispanic, and Anglo-American cultures of northern New Mexico, including her vast collection of more than 1,200 pieces of jewelry, textiles like Navajo chief blankets, pottery by Maria Martinez and Taos Pueblo artists, kachina figures, baskets, paintings, photography, and Hispanic religious arts.
The museum highlights Rogers' advocacy for Native American rights and art classification as historic, offering educational programs, temporary exhibits, and a focus on regional creativity that draws visitors to explore Southwest heritage in a serene setting.
