Park
North Bend Rail Trail in West Virginia, USA, is a 72-mile rail-trail state park stretching from Wolf Summit near Clarksburg east to Happy Valley by I-77 near Parkersburg, crossing Wood, Ritchie, Doddridge, and Harrison counties parallel to U.S. Route 50.
Converted from the former Baltimore & Ohio Railroad corridor built in the 1850s before the Civil War, it features 36 bridges, 13 tunnels (10 passable including the 2,297-foot Central Station Tunnel and reputedly haunted 1,376-foot Silver Run Tunnel), and a gentle crushed stone surface dropping just 856 feet overall through Appalachian forests, rock cuts, farmland, and shaded canopies.
Part of the 5,500-mile American Discovery Trail, this renowned multi-use path welcomes hiking, biking, and horseback riding year-round with multiple access points, trail towns, nearby North Bend State Park camping, and historical ties like a 1915 train robbery site.
