Park
Old Fort Harrod State Park is a small historic park in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, centered on a full‑scale reconstructed frontier fort that honors the first permanent American settlement in what is now Kentucky.
The fort, named after James Harrod, was originally built in 1774, and the present park includes a recreated stockade with log blockhouses, cabins, and pioneer‑style buildings furnished to show daily life on the 18th‑century frontier. Inside and around the fort, visitors see exhibits, living‑history demonstrations, and craft displays that explain early settlement, frontier warfare, and the region’s role in the American Revolution.
The park also contains the Mansion Museum with Civil War and Native American artifacts, the George Rogers Clark Federal Monument, the Lincoln Marriage Temple housing the cabin where Abraham Lincoln’s parents were wed, and the oldest cemetery west of the Alleghenies, all packed into about 15 acres in the heart of Harrodsburg.
