Park
Seven Lakes State Park is a 1,434‑acre Michigan state park located just northwest of Holly in Oakland County, about an hour northwest of Detroit.
It takes its name from a group of once‑separate lakes that were combined into a larger reservoir called Big Seven Lake when developers built a dam, later selling the land to the state in 1969 and opening the park in 1977. Over 230 acres of water spread across six lakes, including Big Seven, Little Seven, and Dickinson Lake, provide opportunities for paddling, fishing, and swimming, alongside a modern campground, picnic areas, boat launches, and several miles of hiking and mountain‑biking trails that wind through rolling woodlands and open fields.
The park also supports wildlife habitat, including protected species such as the eastern massasauga rattlesnake, and offers family‑friendly day‑use amenities like bathhouses, picnic shelters, and a large sandy beach on Big Seven Lake.
