Park
Shore Acres State Park is a stunning 745-acre coastal park in Coos County, southwestern Oregon, USA, perched on sandstone cliffs 80-100 feet above the Pacific Ocean, about 13 miles southwest of Coos Bay along Cape Arago Highway.
Originally the Gilded Age estate of lumber baron Louis J. Simpson with a grand mansion lost to storms and fire, it now features 5 acres of meticulously maintained botanical gardens blooming year-round with roses, rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, and a Japanese lily pond, plus seasonal Holiday Lights displays from Thanksgiving to New Year's Eve drawing massive crowds.
Dramatic clifftop trails connect to Sunset Bay and Cape Arago parks via Oregon Coast Trail segments, offering whale watching December through June, storm viewing, tidepool access at Simpson Beach cove, and wildlife spotting on Simpson Reef including seals and sea lions.
