Park
Sideling Hill Creek State Park is a roughly 500–865‑acre Maryland state park in Allegany County, set along the forested slopes and valley of Sideling Hill Creek as it flows down toward the Potomac River near Hancock.
The park lies within a largely intact, steep‑sided watershed with high‑quality water and rich biodiversity, supporting a stocked trout stream, rare plant and animal species, and the Potomac River Scenic Overlook, which offers broad views of the river valley and picnic tables.
The land was returned to the Maryland State Park Service in 2021 after earlier management by The Nature Conservancy, and the current master plan emphasizes minimal changes to the landscape so it will remain a quiet, mountainous forest preserve. Visitors can hike, fish, and enjoy wildlife viewing, and the park is also developing a network of adaptive mountain‑bike trails, making it a growing but still low‑density recreation area in the western Maryland Appalachians.
