Park
Straits State Park is an 181‑acre Michigan state park on the northern shores of the Straits of Mackinac in Mackinac County, just south of St. Ignace and directly across the Mackinac Bridge from the Lower Peninsula.
The park offers a large campground with around 255–270 modern sites, many with lake views, along with picnic areas, a small waterfront, playground, and viewing platforms that provide dramatic panoramas of the Mackinac Bridge and the busy Straits of Mackinac.
Inside the park sits the Father Marquette National Memorial, an interpretive site that tells the story of the 17th‑century French missionary‑explorer and the meeting of French and Native American cultures, enhancing the area’s historic feel, while the North Country Trail passes through the park and a short one‑mile loop trail leads along the shoreline, making the site a popular base for camping, birdwatching, and exploring nearby attractions such as Mackinac Island and the Soo Locks.
