Tickfaw State Park spans about 1,200 acres in Livingston Parish, Louisiana, 7 miles west of Springfield, and opened in 1999 as one of the state's most popular parks due to its proximity to New Orleans and Baton Rouge.
It features boardwalk trails and paths exploring four ecosystems—cypress-tupelo swamp, bottomland hardwood forest, mixed pine-hardwood forest, and the Tickfaw River—home to alligators, armadillos, beavers, deer, foxes, opossums, raccoons, squirrels, anoles, skinks, birds, fish, and reptiles.
Visitors enjoy a nature center with an 800-gallon aquarium and exhibits, fishing pond, canoe/kayak river trips, water playground, picnic shelters, night hiking, 14 cabins, 50 campsites, and programs amid occasional floodplain flooding that supports wetland life.
