Park
Van Riper State Park is a roughly 1,100‑acre family‑oriented Michigan state park in the Upper Peninsula, about 35 miles west of Marquette off US‑41 in Marquette County, split between Michigamme and Champion townships.
The park sits along the eastern shore of Lake Michigamme and the banks of the Peshekee River, offering about 1.5 miles of waterfront on each waterbody and a popular buoyed swim beach with a sandy shoreline and relatively warm lake water.
Visitors can enjoy a modern campground with electric sites and mini cabins, a rustic campground, picnic areas, an accessible playground, a bicycle pump track, and several miles of easy‑to‑moderate trails that run along the riverside, through forested areas, and past small overlooks, while the park also supports fishing, paddling, snowmobiling, cross‑country skiing, and special events such as the large Harvest Fest in the fall.
