Park
Vogel State Park, one of Georgia's oldest established in 1931 at the base of Blood Mountain in the Chattahoochee National Forest, spans 233 acres at about 2,500 feet elevation for cooler summers and stunning fall foliage.
Much of its stone cabins, picnic areas, trails, and the 22-acre Lake Trahlyta—dammed by the Civilian Conservation Corps from Wolf Creek—were built by CCC workers in the 1930s, with the lake named for a Cherokee maiden buried nearby.
Popular for hiking over 17 miles of trails like the Bear Hair Gap loop to Trahlyta Falls, it offers 90 RV/tent sites, 18 walk-ins, 34 cottages, seasonal swimming beach, trout fishing, non-motorized boating, mini-golf, and a CCC museum, drawing over 300,000 visitors yearly.
