Washoe Lake State Park is a more than 3,700‑acre Nevada park on the southeast shore of the shallow Washoe Lake, in Washoe Valley between Reno and Carson City, with dramatic views of the Sierra Nevada, Carson Range, and Virginia Mountains.
The area is known for strong winds that make it a popular spot for windsurfing, kayaking, and other water sports, while the lake and its adjacent wetlands support channel and bullhead catfish, white bass, Sacramento perch, and many waterfowl and birds of prey.
The park offers year‑round camping in a 49‑site campground, picnic areas, boat launches, and more than 35 miles of trails open to hikers, horseback riders, and sometimes ATVs, creating a high‑desert valley basecamp for fishing, wildlife viewing, and day trips to nearby Lake Tahoe, Reno, and historic towns like Virginia City.
