Bluewater Lake State Park spans 2,500 acres at 7,400 feet elevation in the Zuni Mountains of northwestern New Mexico, 25 miles west of Grants along I-40 near Prewitt.
Formed by a historic 1920s arched dam on Bluewater and Cottonwood Creeks amid piñon-juniper woodlands, its 1,500-acre lake excels in tiger muskie, rainbow trout, and channel catfish fishing, plus boating, kayaking, sailing, water skiing, and winter ice fishing.
Visitors enjoy 149 campsites with electric hookups, primitive beach and boat-in options, short hiking trails to dam overlooks, horseback riding, birdwatching for 68 species, picnicking shelters, a playground, showers, and a visitor center highlighting Navajo history.
