Caballo Lake State Park lies 16 miles south of Truth or Consequences in southern New Mexico along the Rio Grande, framed by the Caballo Mountains in the northern Chihuahuan Desert.
Formed by the 1930s Caballo Dam, the reservoir spans over 11,500 acres when full and ranks as New Mexico's third-largest lake, drawing visitors for bass and walleye fishing, boating, kayaking, sailing, swimming, and waterskiing.
The park offers 170 campsites across four areas with electric/water hookups, restrooms, showers, trails for hiking and horseback riding, picnicking, a visitor center, playground, and wildlife viewing including winter waterfowl.
