Caines Head State Recreation Area is a 6,571-acre coastal park in Resurrection Bay on Alaska's Kenai Peninsula, located 7 miles south of Seward and accessible by a 4.5-mile coastal trail from Lowell Point State Recreation Site or by boat. It features dramatic headlands rising 650 feet with sweeping ocean views, historic World War II remnants at Fort McGilvray including gun batteries and underground bunkers, forested trails, shale beaches, and alpine meadows ideal for hiking, backpacking, beach camping, and wildlife viewing. A portion of the trail requires low tide travel for safety, with nearly 14 miles of paths following old military roads amid rugged cliffs and tide zones rich in marine life.
