Squirrel Creek State Recreation Site is a 160-acre campground in Alaska's Copper River Valley, located at mile 79.5 of the Richardson Highway, about 35 miles south of Glennallen near Copper Center and bounded by Squirrel Creek, the Tonsina River, and a small lake. It offers 25 first-come, first-served campsites suitable for tents and RVs of any length without hookups, featuring picnic tables, fire rings, vault toilets, drinking water, bear-proof trash cans, and easy highway access for a peaceful summer stay from May through September. Popular activities include fishing for grayling and trout in the creek and river, swimming, picnicking by the water, hiking in surrounding boreal forests with moose and bird viewing, and using it as a base for exploring Wrangell-St. Elias National Park.
